Pat & Julie McDonald,
Re: Herald article
What is the matter with you?
Can you not understand the difference between a truck rumbling by and 50 plus motocross bikes going all day, every day?
Why, oh why must we loose our neighborhood to the obvious noise, pollution, garbage, camping, traffic and parking issues to satisfy kids "a place to ride" from all over the state and out of state!
Maltby is no place to drop this monster. You must have your retirement invested in a difference place other than your home.
Sorry, you are wrong.
Regarding Everett Herald article, 3/17/06.
Dear Mr. Sheets,
Thank you for your story about the contaminated waste at the Rinker pit in Maltby. You quote nearby residents Julie and Pat McDonald; "We've been listening to the dump trucks rumbling up the road all that time; it doesn't seem like a motocross track would be any noisier."
Fact: Few Maltby Clearview residents are bothered by the Rinker pit activity. Fact: Rinker runs a standard business-hour shift with minimal activity on Saturdays.
Are the McDonalds prepared for what could happen?
Their friend, MXGP owner Gary Strode‘s proposal is for huge regional and national motocross with events that will occur on most weekends. His proposal calls for more racing than MXGP hosted illegally in Monroe in 2005 (17). Proposed are hundreds of motorcycles and thousands of spectators. In Monroe few homes were impacted yet complaints were many. In Maltby there are hundreds of homes and hundreds of children that will be impacted.
Are they prepared for the crush of cars and people parking in their neighborhood? MXGP has only 125 parking spaces. Are they prepared to deal with dump trucks plus weekend motocross noise for SEVEN years? That's right, Rinker will operate alongside MXGP for seven years!
They are concerned that kids have a place to ride. There are many areas for riders to take their kids. They must be aware of the hundreds of miles of free public ORV and motorcycle trails set aside by Snohomish County and DNR. Fact, many are accessible within 1/2 hour of Maltby.
Fact: Snohomish County Council News Release, 1/18/06; "Snohomish County has officially created new access areas for off-road vehicle users“…“residents can now enjoy these recreational areas instead of going to other parks located outside the county“…"they are long distances from developed areas." This is where they belong! Motocross does not belong in our neighborhood!
Gary Strode’s site plan addresses weekday use. How is he going to pay his proposed 30 employees? With huge racing events every weekend! Fact: The proposal has little to do with kids, it has to do with thousands of paying spectators who DO NOT care about McDonald’s neighborhood or kids. GET A CLUE, this is NOT about kids.
What about our Kids? We will protect them by preventing the proposed inappropriate use of our neighborhood land. Motocross does NOT belong in any neighborhood.
Not sure where this specific concern should be inserted (possibly under non-parity) but we get constant sound from the airplanes and helicopters taking off and landing at the airport in Snohomish. Sometimes the sound of even the smaller planes is so loud, we have to stop our conversations. And, if I understand correctly, they are planning to expand the airport. So, not only will we be assualted from the air by impairing noises, but from the ground as well if this proposed motorcross is approved.
It simply does not belong in a residential/rual neighborhood.
